About 150 acres of land will be required for taking up the Government’s ambitious two-bedroom scheme of building one lakh units in the city suburbs for which the Collectors of Sangareddy, Medchal, Hyderabad and Rangareddy have been directed to identify the sites by Minister for Municipal Administration and IT K.T. Rama Rao on Friday.

Once the land is earmarked, tenders can be called by August, he observed. Completion of the pending basic amenities, identification of beneficiaries and quick handover for the 9,700 houses already built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) before this year end too has been ordered.

For such houses built on the suburbs, he wanted 10% of them to be handed over to the local people when he presided over a meeting with top officials to discuss about the proposed and ongoing projects in the capital and suburbs at the camp office.

After going through the proposals for the works under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) in different areas, he observed that proposed tunnel work at Khajaguda and grade separator at Gachibowli will go a long way in easing the traffic congestion in these areas once they are completed.

Remodelling nine junctions is likely to be completed by December end. Altogether, junction improvement works are being taken up in 54 of the 220 sites, he said. About 20 water bodies are to be revived at a total cost of ₹400 crore with funds to be sourced from Mission Kakatiya. There should be no further delay in removing encroachments on storm water drains at the already identified key sites, he added.

Mayor B. Rammohan, Housing Secretary Chitra Ramachandran, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Secretary Navin Mittal, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and others were present.

Voters enumeration

GHMC will begin house wise door to door enumeration of voters rolls from July 1 to Aug.15 throughout the 15 Assembly constituencies under its jurisdiction, Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy informed political parties representatives at a meeting here on Friday.

About 4,300 tablets are to be given to the 3,879 booth level officers for the work for the first time and tenders have already been floated for the same. About 392 supervisors have also been appointed to monitor the work done by the booth level officials.

Maps for the polling stations across the twin cities are underway and 80% of the sketches are ready making use of the satellite imagery, he said. The comprehensive enumeration of the voters lists are done once in every five years and every citizen above 18 years of age should enrol themselves into the electoral lists with geo-tagging also being this time.
