Passenger bound for Dubai apprehended at RGIA

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Wednesday apprehended a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and seized equivalent of over ₹1.2 crore in foreign currencies from his possession.

According to a press release, the passenger, identified as Md Parvez, who was scheduled to fly on an Emirates flight to Dubai was stopped around 2 a.m. He was questioned and his luggage was screened at random. An inspection revealed that the Parvez was carrying USD 16,500, Qatari Riyals 52,000, UAE Dirhams 37,950, Kuwaiti Dinars 2,165, Omani Riyals 4,625, Bahrain Dinars 2,395 and Saudi Riyals 2,99,100.

Upon questioning, the passenger was unable to provide any documents for the currency on his person. The Central Industrial Security Force then handed over the passenger and the currency to customs officials for legal action.
