First-year degree students of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions’ Society (TSWREIS) continue their remarkable run by securing top three ranks in universities across Telangana in the first semester results announced recently.

No full-fledged faculty

Although the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree Colleges for Women (TSWRDCW) had started two months late when compared to the regular degree colleges across the State in the last academic year and lacked a full-fledged faculty, the girls managed to secure top two ranks from Palamuru University – first rank from Mahabubnagar college and second rank from Wanaparthy college.

If the Palamuru University average pass percentage was 25.81%, these girls secured as high as 89% and 84% respectively. First, second and fourth ranks were also secured from Mahatma Gandhi University where the average pass percentage was 21.42% and these girls obtained 89% from Suryapet college, 57% from Nalgonda college and 52% from Bhongir college.

Even without getting top ranks in other universities, the girls from the newly-established degree colleges did well otherwise.

For instance, in Osmania University where the average pass percentage was 36.40%, the girls got 63%; in Satavahana University where the pass percentage was 34%, the girls got 85% with Karimnagar college getting 90% and in Kakatiya University where the average was 30.8%, the pass percentage for TSWRDCW was 79.42% with colleges in Warangal and Mancherial scoring 91%.

TSWREI Secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar, while expressing happiness over the results, pointed out that the students had done well despite having only part-time lecturers and text books being issued a few months after the classes had begun.

“Getting top ranks in universities is a great achievement for our fledgling colleges, more so because 11 students got cent per cent grades,” he said.

Dr. Kumar has also announced a cash prize of ₹5,000 each to those who achieved cent per cent marks. They include C. Bharati, G. Rani, V. Heera, H. Sudha Mai and M. Tulasi, all studying B.Sc from colleges in Mahabubnagar and Wanaparthy; L. Swetha, S. Manasa and B. Sreeja also studying B.SC from Karimnagar college; V. Srividya- B.Sc from Vikarabad college; V. Veda Priya- B.Sc from Jagadgirigutta college and V. Pavithra - B.Com from Bhongir college.
