The Bathini family has requested the government and the district administration to make necessary arrangements for the annual fish ‘prasadam’ distribution at the Exhibition Grounds, Nampally, this year. The prasadam distribution will start at 1 p.m. on June 8 and will continue till 1 p.m. on June 9.

The family has been distributing the prasadam at the Exhibition Grounds since 1989, but confusion regarding the venue resulted in chaos last year.

One person died and several others were injured in a stampede last year at Kattedan, which lacked the infrastructure to accommodate large crowds.

“To avoid the problems experienced during last year’s fish prasadam distribution, we have requested Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy personally, and this year the event will be held at Exhibition Grounds again. The Exhibition Society, too, was generous in accepting our request,” Bathini Harinath Goud said at a press conference here on Sunday.

This year the Bathini family is preparing 200 kg of fish prasadam to cater for nearly four lakh people.

For better results, people should also take the medicine on June 22, July 6 and July 20, and the extra quantity will be given to them while taking the fish medicine.

Follow-up a must

“After one takes fish prasadam, one should take the extra quantity of medicine given and make six tablets out of it and dry them in shade, preferably under a fan. These tablets should be taken, one on empty stomach in the morning and the other after dinner on these three days,” Mr. Goud explained.

One should also strictly follow the prescribed diet restrictions for the medicine to be effective. The authorities have promised to make proper arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual event, and several city-based voluntary organisations have come forward to provide basic amenities to people, he added.
