‘Kakatiyam’ dance to be showcased

A new dance form created out of folklore that existed 1,400 years ago in Kakatiya dynasty will be unveiled by Kuchipudi dancer G. Padmaja Reddy and her team at Shilpa Kala Vedika on February 5.

At a press conference here in the presence of Tourism Minister A. Chandulal and Secretary B. Venkatesham, Ms. Padmaja Reddy said that the dance was composed on the basis of numismatic evidence collected from a treatise ‘Nrutya Ratnavali’ scripted by Jayapasenani, uncle of Rani Rudramadevi.

Though there were 16 varieties of dance in the book, she said her team of 13 members will present only four - Brahmari Roopam, Kanduka Nrutyam, Kolatam and Perni. She said that it took her three years to research the dances contained in the book.
