A 19-year-old was stabbed to death by a 28-year-old man late on Sunday night after the duo allegedly got into a drunken brawl in outer Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar.

The police are on the lookout for the accused, who is absconding.

The incident happened when daily wage labourers 19-year-old Vijay and Raj Kumar alias Ballu were drinking at Vijay’s jhuggi in Udyog Nagar.

“Ballu reportedly got violent and abusive after drinking, and started abusing Vijay. When the youth objected to this behaviour, an enraged Ballu went to his house to fetch a knife and attacked him,” said a senior police officer.

Stabbed in the chest

Vijay ran towards the street, where his friends Pankaj and Puran tried to prevent Ballu from attacking him. However, he attacked them too, said the police.

All three were rushed to a hospital where Vijay, who was stabbed in the chest, succumbed to injuries. Pankaj and Puran, who also suffered serious injuries, were shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

‘No intention to kill’

The police said Ballu and his wife had gone to the hospital after the incident. However, Ballu left after being told that Vijay had died.

“Ballu’s wife said he had no intention of killing Vijay and that it was a drunken brawl. She added that the victim got stabbed in the wrong place. She claimed that Vijay, Puran and Pankaj had thrown a stone at Ballu before he got the knife,” said the officer, adding that Ballu has no criminal history.

The police have registered a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. “His wife and family members are being questioned to identify his possible hideouts,” said the officer.
