Work on the delayed Delhi Metro Phase-IV project has started, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister of State (Independent charge) Hardeep Puri told Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Answering a question by BJP MP Vijay Goel, the Minister said the Centre had approved three priority corridors of Phase-IV totalling 61.7 km in March this year, but the Delhi government had told the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) not to start construction till the Ministry revised its approval “in tune” with the State government’s.
While the Centre had approved three corridors, the State government had approved all six proposed corridors under Phase-IV.
“The DMRC has informed that it has started preparatory work. The project is scheduled to be completed in five years from the date of start of work,” the Minister said.
According to sources, the first tender of the Phase-IV project was floated last week for construction of 10 elevated stations and a viaduct on the Janakpuri West-R.K. Ashram corridor. Sources said the tender for the Maujpur-Majlis Park corridor of eight stations would be floated next week.
