The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) said on Monday that it had rescued a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped 11 months ago from Sultanpuri by her neighbour.

Sexually abused

After being rescued, the girl told the commission that she had been sexually abused over the past few months and forced to conceive a child.

The teenager alleged that she was lured by the kidnapper’s sister, following which she was confined by his family. She claimed that she was forcibly married to her kidnapper, who sexually abused her regularly.

“The girl was taken to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh and married off to the accused. Each time she allegedly begged the accused and or his family to release her, she was told that she had to have a child first. She gave birth two months back,” said the commission.

Spotted at Chhath Puja

The teenager’s sister found her during Chhath Puja celebrations and alerted their family.

The DCW said a mobile helpline team along with Sultanpuri police reached the accused’s house and rescued the girl.
