A woman allegedly confined to a room and set ablaze by her mother-in-law was rescued within minutes by a Delhi Police team in South Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.

Team rushed to aid

R K Singh, DCP (PCR), said a team was rushed to Shabbu’s aid after her husband alerted the Central Police Control Room around 3:37 p.m.

Locked in room

“Shabbu's mother-in-law had locked her in a room after setting her on fire. One of our MPVs rushed to the spot, broke open the door, and rescued her by using a fire extinguisher and blanket within seven minutes,” said Mr. Singh.

According to Mr. Singh, the incident was reported in the servant quarters of the Akash farmhouse located on Jaunapur Road.

The victim’s husband, Nizamuddin, made the PCR call about the incident after he got wind of it from his mother. He had married Shabbu in 2010.
