A woman has been arrested along with her male accomplice for allegedly befriending a man on a dating app and robbing him of ₹1.36 lakh through online money transfer. The woman allegedly rendered the man unconscious during their meeting at a hotel and made off with his mobile phone and other belongings.

The duo — Deepali Das (39) and Ashwani Sharma (40) — were earlier arrested by the Delhi Police in a similar case registered at Greater Kailash Police Station and had spent three months in jail.

The victim working at a private company in Gurugram for the last four years made a complaint at Palam Vihar police station saying that a woman had illegally withdrawn ₹1.36 lakh from his bank account through online and had also taken away his wallet containing ₹1,500 in cash and his identity cards, including Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID.

The two came to know each other through a dating app and had been chatting for almost 20 days before the woman asked him to come and meet her at a hotel. They met at MG Road metro station on April 1 and then went to a hotel. After the meals, the duo had drinks together following which the man passed out. When he regained consciousness the next morning, the hotel staff told him that the woman had left around 2 a.m. He found his wallet and mobile phone missing and later discovered that ₹1.36 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn from his account.

It was found during investigation that the woman had transferred the money to her banking apps and his male accomplice’s bank account from the victim’s bank account. The accused was arrested on Wednesday.

Sedated victim

The two purportedly told the police that the woman had struck friendship with the complainant as part of their plan to rob him. She gave him drinks laced with sedatives when the two met at a hotel and procured the password to his mobile phone and bank’s app when he was semi-conscious.

Both the accused had lost their spouses and were making a living by robbing people.
