A 21-year-old woman allegedly ended her life by jumping into the Yamuna from the DND flyway on Sunday.

PCR call at 4 p.m.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya said an eyewitness called up the police control room around 4 p.m. to inform about the incident.

Police to the rescue

DTC bus conductor Dheerendra claimed to have seen a woman arrive at the spot in an auto-rickshaw, fling her belongings onto the footpath and jump into the river.

Police and fire personnel reached the spot and fished the woman out of the river. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The police later identified her as Arti, a resident of Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh.

“She had been working as a maid for the past three years,” the police said.

Body sent for autopsy

Her brother Pradeep was informed and he reached the hospital from Noida. The body has been sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for post-mortem examination, which is likely to be conducted on Monday.

The police are talking to Arti’s family and employer to gather information.
