Woman held with boyfriend for murdering husband

The body was found dumped at Dayabasti

A 31-year-old woman along with her 24-year-old boyfriend has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband at Anand Parbat in North Delhi last month.

The accused woman has been identified as Neetu Singh and her lover as Vijay Singh. They were apprehended by the Delhi Police on Friday.

On June 9, the police were informed about a body lying near a railway crossing at Dayabasti in Delhi. The police kept the body at the Subzi Mandi mortuary in North Delhi for identification. After waiting for more than 10 days, post-mortem was conducted on June 17.

“We received the post-mortem report on June 24. The autopsy surgeon opined that the cause of death was ‘crania-cerebral damage consequent upon blunt force impact and sufficient to cause death in ordinary course of nature’,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) Madhur Verma.

The police registered a case of murder on the basis of the post-mortem report on June 27 and began investigating it.

“It was a blind case. There was no clue about the deceased, the motive and the accused,” said Mr. Verma.

The police issued around 5,000 “Hue and Cry notices” across Delhi and the National Capital Region to identify the victim. After spotting one of these notices, the brother of the deceased, Brij Bhushan, approached the Sarai Rohilla police station in North Delhi. He identified the deceased as 48-year-old Raghvender Singh.

The police learnt that Raghvender was working as a power press operator at Anand Parbat. Neetu was his third wife. She married Raghvender when she was just 15.

“Neetu was allegedly in the habit of indulging in illicit relationships with younger men. She told Vijay that her husband was harassing and beating her regularly. Since the victim was aware of their illicit relationship, they hatched a conspiracy to kill him,” said the officer.

On the intervening night of June 8 and June 9, the accused waited for Raghvender to return ome from work. After he reached, Vijay offered him liquor and told him that they will have a party at Dayabasti.

“At Dayabasti, Vijay served a lot of alcohol to Raghvender and when he got drunk, he hit him on his head with the liquor bottle and stabbed him in his stomach with it. After committing the murder, Vijay dumped his body there,” said Mr. Verma.
