A 37-year-old woman was arrested by the police last week for allegedly strangulating her husband in April. The murder was brought to light after the post mortem report of the deceased was received by the police.
On April 7, the police were informed that 54-year-old Nathuni Paswan, a resident of south Delhi’s Ayurvigyan Nagar, was declared brought dead at AIIMS. They were told by the family that he passed away in his sleep. However, the post mortem report revealed that he had died of asphyxiation.
When the police started investigating, they found that the relationship between the husband and his wife Aruna were not cordial and they often fought over petty issues. It later came out that she had a mobile phone number that she did not declare during questioning. The number had also not been used after her husband’s death.
Call records scanned
When the call records of the number were scanned, the police learnt she was in constant touch with one Sanjeev Paswan, a resident of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. “She said she had met him during a marriage in Bihar and started discussing her marital problems with him. The two later fell in love,” said Additional DCP (South) Chinmoy Biswal.
According to the police, the two hatched a conspiracy to kill Mr Nathuni by mixing sleeping pills in his meal and later strangle him with a ‘gamcha’. “He was giving her instructions on the phone throughout and the sim card was destroyed after the crime,” said Mr Biswal. The police have seized the ‘gamcha’ and hunt is on for Sanjeev.
