A 24-year-old woman has been allegedly ‘fired’ from her job at a private company in Noida Sector 11 after she applied for a maternity leave.

The Noida police launched a probe in the matter after the victim’s sister-in-law tweeted the matter by tagging Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the State police.

The police said that the victim, identified as Monika Rawat, a resident of Greater Noida’s Shahberi, worked with the company as a customer relationship executive for the last six months.

Ms. Rawat said that she had joined the company in June. She said she had told the management of the company at the time of joining that she thought she was expecting, but was not sure. She was then hired by the company.

She said that in July end she came to know from the doctor that she was pregnant. She informed the team manager, the human resource team and the management of the company about her pregnancy.

‘I was tortured’

“Everything was going well initially, but the management soon started torturing me. They said that I would have to leave the job if I wanted to continue with my pregnancy and finally terminated my service,” Ms. Rawat alleged.

Customer relationship manager Rashmi, who also heads Ms. Rawat’s team, said that she did not have any knowledge about the matter. However, the junior staff of the company confirmed that police had come to their office for investigation.

Pankaj Pant, Station House Officer (Sector 24 police station), said that a police team visited the offfice to investigate the matter on Monday. The investigation has revealed that Ms. Rawat has served the company for 175 days. The police also found that out of 175 days, the woman remained absent for 60 days. “A meeting has been fixed between the woman and the management to resolve the matter,”Mr. Pant also said.
