A woman drug peddler was arrested from Taimoor Nagar of South-East district, the police said on Sunday.

The woman was identified as Hasina Begum, 32, and 265 gram of heroin was seized from her possession, said DCP (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal.

In an ongoing drive against drug peddlers, the police gathered intelligence regarding supply of drugs in Taimoor Nagar.

On November 16, the police got a tip-off regarding the movement of a drug supplier in the area. A trap was laid and Hasina Begum was arrested.

Family business

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that she lived in Taimoor Nagar since childhood and her family members were into the drug peddling business.

She used to purchase heroin at ₹12 lakh per kg from drug suppliers. She used to prepare small packets of the drug and sell them at ₹150 each. She used to earn a profit of ₹3 lakh on sale of 1 kg of heroin. Begum used to sell these packets to drug addicts in Delhi-NCR and at party events.

Hired people

To avoid detection, she had deployed unemployed young men to keep an eye on police movement in the area. She had also hired men to deliver drug packets to addicts. She paid ₹500 per day to them to sell heroin packs for her and ₹200 to men who kept an eye on the police.

“Under the anti-drug drive, we have arrested several drug peddlers who were active in South-East Delhi. Further investigation is under way and the efforts to trace the other drug peddlers are on,” said Mr. Biswal.
