Wary officials seek outside posting

Meeting today to ‘clear the air’

May 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - NEW DELHI:

At least a dozen senior officers working with the Delhi Government are understood to have approached the Home Ministry to get postings outside the Capital as the row over appointment of an acting Chief Secretary continues.

The Delhi Government, according to a senior official, has convened a meeting with secretary-level officers across various departments to ‘clear the air’ over the issue in addition to injecting a ‘sense of security’ among them on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, sources said officers of both IAS and DANICS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands) cadre are keen to get postings in any other place under the jurisdiction of the Union Territory Cadre or in the central deputation.

The officers were apparently not able to adjust with the style of functioning of the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) government and hence wanted to leave the city administration.

Several UT-Cadre officials, posted elsewhere in the country, went on social media to express what they said was relief at the fact that they were not currently posted in the Capital.

Some of the officials who sought transfers approached officials in the Home Ministry, which controls the UT cadre IAS and DANICS officers.

However, no formal communication is understood to have been received from any of the said officers, sources said. They are understood to have told the MHA that the stand-off between Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and AAP government over the appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary had a negative impact on Delhi government’s bureaucracy that led to the development.
