Vendor shot at in Rohini

Accused had aimed at another man

A 20-year-old man was accidentally shot at when a group of assailants opened fire at another man in Rohini’s Alipur on Sunday, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said Santosh, a vendor, sustained a bullet injury in his toe and is said to be stable.

A PCR call was made at 11.45 a.m. by one Dheeraj Tokas who told the police that he had gone to pick up his wife and children from Singhu border when some men in three cars stopped him.

“Those men ferry people to and from Singhu border. They thought I was there to ferry people. But, I had gone to pick up my wife and children. They were returning after celebrating Rakhsha Bandhan at my wife’s place,” Mr. Tokas said.

The accused allegedly slapped him a few times and did not give him the chance to explain his reason for being there, Mr. Tokas alleged.

However, Tokas managed to flee in his vehicle, but the accused followed him in two cars. They stopped him near a temple on Grand Trunk Road where a police vehicle was also parked, he alleged.

“They thrashed me again and started firing. Thankfully none of my family members were hurt. However, a bullet hit a water vendor, who was standing nearby,” he said.

‘Cops present at spot’

Tokas also alleged that the incident took place in front of a few police personnel.

The accused then fled the spot but left one vehicle bearing a Haryana’s number plate.

The car has been seized, the police said. Mr. Gupta said that the claims are being verified.

“A case under relevant IPC Sections has been registered and an investigation is under way. No arrests have been made so far,” Mr. Gupta added.
