A 58-year-old man died after he ‘slipped’ in front of a metro train at Mandi House station on Friday evening. He was declared brought dead at the hospital, the police said.

The police said that the preliminary probe revealed that Vinod Kumar Pathak “accidentally slipped” around 7.45 p.m. “He was going to Patel Nagar and was standing at the platform. So far, it appears to be a case of accidental fall,” said a senior police officer.

Pathak was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by the police where he was declared brought dead.

“The man was alive when he was pulled from the tracks. He died while being taken to the hospital,” the officer said.

The police said that Pathak was from Varanasi and had come to visit his son, who is preparing for the civil services examination, in Patel Nagar.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said that services on the Blue Line, on which the Mandi House metro station is located, were affected for around 30 minutes after the incident.

A DMRC official said that the incident happened around 7.35 p.m.

“Normal services on the Blue Line resumed around 8.05 p.m,” added the official.
