A 22-year-old US national was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by her fiancé inside a guest house in Jangpura here on Saturday night.

Twenty-three-year-old Omid Milad Hussain Khill, who is studying at St. Petersburg, was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday while he was allegedly trying to flee to Afghanistan on an Air India flight. Both, Omid and his fiancée Paimana, originally belong to Afghanistan.

Paimana, a student of American River College in California, had come to India over a week ago and was staying with her maternal aunt Nuriya in Jangpura Extension. Omid also joined her a few days ago and shifted to a guest house in the neighbourhood after spending a day with Paimana at her aunt's house.

“When Omid came to India a week ago, Paimana went to receive him at the airport with her aunt. After Omid shifted to the guest house, Paimana would often visit him and the relation between the two was cordial. Things took an ugly turn when a Maulvi consulted by Nuriya for the marriage did not approve of the match. Paimana too was not very enthusiastic about their relationship. Omid loved Paimana and felt heart-broken at this news,” said a senior police officer.

The two were together shopping at Amar Colony market just a few hours before the murder on Saturday night. “They returned from the market around 8 p.m. and Omid left for the guest house at 10 p.m. after staying with Paimana at her aunt's house. Soon Paimana also followed Omid to the guest house telling her aunt that she was tired and wanted to take a hot water shower. When Paimana did not return till around midnight, Nuriya sent a neighbour's daughter Sonia to the guest house to enquire. The door to the guest room was ajar and when Sonia opened it, she found Paimana lying in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife stuck in her stomach,” said the officer. Sonia then informed the police.

According to the police, the articles in the room were scattered suggesting struggle between them before the murder.

Immediately after the police were informed about the murder, a team was dispatched to IGI Airport and a “look out circular” was sent to all immigration check posts to trace Omid.

Paimana had got engaged to the accused in Afghanistan over two years ago. Her mother and sister stay in California. Her father died a few years ago.
