Up and about: The online burger flash sale

Flash sales online to sell mobile phones and bestsellers have created ripples over the past few months and proven to be excellent ways to raise publicity around a launch.

Trying to cash-in on the frenzy ahead of its launch, international burger chain Burger King took advance booking to a new level by letting customers order burgers in a flash sale.

The official Burger King India page on Facebook posted a link to ebay.in ahead of the opening of its first store in India at noon on Sunday by offering customers a chance to jump the queue and receive a free t-shirt on buying a burger at a promotional price online.

At first, Facebook users thought it was a fake message. This until people started posting screenshots of their confirmation vouchers. Youngsters crazy about fast food lapped up the offer and created quite a buzz around it.

However, some are still sceptical about the offer.

Rohan, a clothes store attendant at a Saket mall, where the outlet is opening, said: “All this is a gimmick to get people to visit the store on the launch date. There will be so many people at the store… it will be chaotic as I have been told that over 1,000 burgers have been booked. How is that jumping the queue?”

There is resentment among the fans of the chain over non-availability of their famous beef burgers in Delhi. The sale closed on November 5 once the number of burgers available sold out.

Day Two of the three-day South Asian Bands Festival at Purana Quila saw a huge crowd of Delhi University students, who had come to attend the performance of The Ska Vengers. A popular band among students, it has performed at DU fests several times. The performace by Indus Creed was also appreciated.
