A 22-year-old undertrial was allegedly killed inside Rohini jail on Tuesday for not following the orders of another inmate, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Rohini resident Pawan. Arrested in a theft case, he was lodged inside the jail since the past two months. He was strangulated by Kishan in a jail cell.

Kishan had allegedly given Pawan a task on Monday night, which he refused to do. Irked, Kishan strangulated him.

“Pawan’s family has been informed about the incident,” said a police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said they received a call from Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital at 4 a.m. on Tuesday stating that an undertrial from Rohini jail had been brought in and was later declared dead. Kishan is facing a trial in a murder case and is in jail since 2013.

The police have started an investigation in the case. Sources claimed they have not ruled out the possibility of establishing supremacy as the motive.

Pawan’s family claimed no one had met him recently but were thinking of getting him out on bail.
