Nearly two weeks after a 30-year-old shot at his wife and father-in-law near National Highway-24 in Kavi Nagar, the Ghaziabad police are yet to make arrests in connection with the case.
Accused Kapil and his family had fled from their house in Bamheta here after the October 11 incident, along with the couple’s five-month-old child, the police said on Tuesday.
However, the baby was found abandoned and suffering from pneumonia outside Kapil’s home on Sunday night. The baby’s condition is said to be critical.
Moni Yadav (21) had sustained six bullet injuries and her 40-year-old father Mukesh Yadav was shot at twice. Both were admitted to a hospital in Kavi Nagar, where Moni’s condition is said to be serious.
Moni’s brother Amit said his sister married Kapil two years ago but their relationship soured a year later due to his persistent dowry demands.
“He started beating Moni frequently. Things did not improve even after the birth of their child. This is not the first time he has fired at her.”
The couple fought two months ago and Moni went to live with her parents.
“She was on the way to a hospital one day when Kapil fired at her but missed. An FIR was registered against him at Kavi Nagar police station. Fifteen days before the October 11 incident, he was caught by the police. Since he promised not to beat Moni or demand dowry, she went back to his house in Bamheta,” Amit said.
He claimed that Kapil later demanded ₹10 lakh and an SUV. Two days before the incident, Kapil thrashed Moni. On October 11, Kapil’s father and uncle called Moni’s family for a meeting near NH-24.
“My father, grandfather and I went to meet them. Kapil, a few others and Moni were also present. Kapil suddenly fired 12 rounds at my father and sister,” Amit alleged.
“An FIR has been registered and we have launched a manhunt to nab the accused,” said an officer at Kavi Nagar police station.
