Two more arrested for kidnapping and murder

March 24, 2012 12:07 pm | Updated 12:07 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Two more persons who allegedly kidnapped a young man for a ransom of Rs.50 lakh and murdered him in Rohini here on Wednesday have been arrested. The police had earlier arrested the main accused along with another accomplice.

The four accused have been identified as Sachin Kadyan (19), Dhruvesh Goswami (19), Rudarvesh Tanwar alias Rubal (20) and Manesh Kumar (22). The police had initially arrested Sachin and Rudarvesh, who were pursuing graduation in business administration from Haryana and were roommates, when they turned out to receive the ransom amount. Dhruvesh was also pursuing the same course from another university, whereas Mahesh -- brother of accused Rudarvesh -- was pursuing a course in pharmacy and worked at a medical store on a part-time basis.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that Rudarvesh and Dhruvesh were the former classmates of the victim, Ashish Garg. The conspiracy to kidnap Ashish for ransom was allegedly hatched by Rudarvesh, who also wanted to settle scores with the victim over the issue of a girl.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) Anil Kumar Ojha said on Wednesday that Ashish's mother received a call at her residence from Sachin requesting her to send Ashish to Akshardham Apartments in Sector 19 of Dwarka. Ashish left home on his motorcycle around 11 a.m. Four hours later, his mother called him up to enquire about his whereabouts. He told her that he was watching a movie with his friends at the Janakpuri District Centre. She tried to contact him again, but in vain.

Ashish's father received the first ransom call around 7-30 p.m. demanding Rs.50 lakh. Another call was made the next morning, during which the amount was scaled down to Rs.30 lakh and a rendezvous point fixed. The police laid a trap and arrested Sachin and Rudarvesh. At their instance, the victim's body was recovered from a rented accommodation at Naharpur in Rohini. The other two accused were arrested thereafter.

According to the police, the accused had already decided to eliminate Ashish before making the ransom call. They allegedly made him consume a soft drink laced with sedatives that was arranged by Mukesh. They then strangled the victim.

The police claim to have seized a syringe and sedatives, belongings and the motorcycle of the victim, a motorcycle used in the commission of crime and the mobile phone used for making the ransom calls.
