Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotla Mubarakpur and a Sub-Inspector of the same police station have been transferred on the recommendation of vigilance inquiry ordered against them in the death case of a 34-year-old man around two months ago, said a senior police officer on Friday.
The victim, Sudeep Wadhwa (28), who died on October 13 this year, had written a note accusing the SHO and other staff of Kotla Mubarakpur police station.
A senior police officer said SHO V.K.P.S. Yadav and Sub-Inspector Rakesh have been transferred to another unit in the district on recommendations from the vigilance unit of the Delhi Police. Mr. Yadav was also an investigating officer in the Sunanda Pushkar case.
The victim’s family members had approached the Police Commissioner and named eight other policemen who have been harassing Wadhwa.
Disciplinary action
They sought disciplinary actions against them. A complaint to register an FIR of abetment for suicide was also submitted by his family.
Mr. Yadav wanted the victim’s family to sell their house to another builder in the area at half the price but they had refused. Mr. Rakesh had allegedly stopped the victim on his way back home and thrashed him. He had also threatened the victim with a false case, the family said.
Wadhwa was upset ever since this incident.
His family alleged that Mr. Yadav and some other policemen from the Kotla Mubarakpur police station started visiting their house to “probe” an alleged case of theft. They said the two officers kept threatening them with dire consequences if they did not agree to their demands.
The family had accused Mr. Yadav and Mr. Rakesh of harassing the victim, even a day before he died.
They had approached the vigilance unit with a complaint against Mr. Yadav and nine other policemen for harassing them.
In the complaint, the victim’s sister alleged that Mr. Yadav had forced her to withdraw a case of rape against three people. She added that the alleged accused were known to him.
During the enquiry by the vigilance team, some of the evidence provided by the family were found to be genuine.
Based on this, further enquiry was initiated. “Mr. Yadav was transferred to another unit to facilitate a fair probe,” said a police officer.
