Two persons were killed and a woman pilot with a private airline was seriously injured on Sunday when their cab collided head-on with another vehicle coming from the wrong direction in the Sikanderpur underpass on Golf Course Road in Gurugram.

The accident happened around 5.30 a.m, when the pilot, 31-year-old Suvarna Sripalli Gayatri, was on her way to work.

Died on the spot

The deceased have been identified as cab driver Vinod Kumar Yadav and airline security guard Kishore Kumar Vishwas, who was sitting in the passenger seat. Yadav was from Raebareli while Vishwas hailed from Bijnore, said the police.

The police added that the driver and the security guard died on the spot while the pilot was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Medanta - The Medicity.

The driver of the erring vehicle fled the spot leaving the car behind. “Efforts are being made to arrest him,” said Gurugram Police spokesperson Ravinder Kumar.

Statement by airline

In an official statement, the airlines said: “An IndiGo first-officer was travelling by a service provider cab to Delhi airport for her flight duties this morning. The cab met with an accident around 5.30 a.m. near DLF Phase 1 [Gurugram]. Regrettably, the driver and the security guard, who was accompanying the staff member, died on the spot. The IndiGo employee has sustained injuries and is being treated in a nearby hospital.”

“The airline staff are present at the hospital and in contact with the family of the injured staff member. The accident is being investigated by the police. The first indications are that the accident was caused due to reckless driving by the other car,” it added.
