Two men, allegedly involved in over 85 criminal cases have been arrested here, the police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Shakeel (35) and Rashid (28), were operating in Delhi-NCR, the said.
The accused were arrested on April 2 from their rented accommodation in Jamia Nagar and two semi-automatic pistols, along with eight live cartridges, were seized from them, the police said.
In February, the two accused persons, along with their accomplices, had burgled the house of famous poet Ashok Chakradhar in Sarita Vihar and fled with cash and valuables from the house. His awards and medals, however, remained intact, Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said.
Shakeel, who was carrying a cash reward of ₹50,000 on his head in a case of armed dacoity committed on September 17 last year in Jagatpuri, had previously been involved in more than 70 cases of dacoity, robbery, snatching, extortion, kidnapping, attempt to murder, assault on police and cases under Arms Act, Mr. Kushwah said. He was also declared as a proclaimed offender in cases pertaining to assault on police. He was allegedly lured into the world of crime by his brother-in-law, gangster Satyaprakash.
On July 23 last, Rashid, along with his accomplices, had killed one Akash in Mayur Vihar. He is also involved in a case of an alleged rape of a minor girl in the same area. He had previously been involved in more than 15 cases, the police said.
