Two inter-State robbers held

Two persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in several cases of robbery and theft, the police said on Tuesday. One of them was carrying a reward of ₹50,000 on his arrest, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said Amber Jafri (28) from Aligarh and Mohammad Abbas (22) from Amroha were nabbed from Madanpur Khadar. A pistol with two live cartridges, one knife, a stolen motorcycle and five mobile phones were recovered from them.

Jafri and his associates were arrested by the U.P. police in a murder case registered in Aligarh, he said. “In January, Jafri and his associates looted ₹1 lakh from a meat trader in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. In August, he and Abbas robbed a collection agent of ₹2.5 lakh in the same area,” Mr. Biswal said, adding that in March, the duo robbed ₹1.35 lakh and gold chain from a couple in Zakir Nagar

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they started committing such crimes to earn quick money. Jafri, who had formed his own gang and often recruited new members, always carried a firearm with him, the DCP added.
