The Delhi Police have arrested two persons for allegedly killing a Karol Bagh jeweller after robbing his showroom in April. Of the four people who had allegedly committed the crime, one is absconding and the other is a juvenile, who has been apprehended.

Victim tied up

On April 30, jeweler Ravinder Kapoor, a resident of Pitampura, was found smothered to death after the accused — who have been identified as Sahil alias Shanky (25), Sanjay alias Sonipat (34), Sanjay Chawla and the juvenile — came on two motorbikes and entered his showroom to rob the jewellery. They then tied his hands and legs with ropes and stuffed a cloth in his mouth before proceeding to rob the showroom.

When Mr. Kapoor’s help, Bhagirath, entered, he was also tied up. “The jeweler was smothered to death,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Randhawa, adding that a case had been registered under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (common intention).

CCTV footage

The police obtained and scanned CCTV footage of the area after which the identity of the accused was established. “We got an important lead through CCTV footage and after analysing the records of previously involved criminals, Sanjay alias Sonipat was nabbed on Tuesday,” said Mr. Randhawa. Sanjay further told the police that he had met Sanjay Chawla in Tihar jail two-three years ago. “Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused,” said Mr. Randhawa.
