A couple was arrested on Tuesday for manhandling and misbehaving with traffic police officers in west Delhi’s Mayapuri after they were stopped for a traffic violation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said the accused, Madhuri (49) and her partner Anil Pandey (59), are residents of Mayapuri. The duo was heavily drunk at the time of the incident.
In a video of the incident, the woman can be heard abusing a traffic police officer, is seen manhandling policemen, and tries to snatch the phone of the person who was taking the video. The incident took place around 6.30 p.m.
The couple was stopped because they were not wearing helmets and crossed the stop line at a red light. “Police officers made efforts to pacify the couple but they remained aggressive and manhandled the staff. Medical examination of the accused confirmed that they were drunk,” Ms. Bhardwaj said.
The man also allegedly lied to the police that they were rushing because of a death in the family. A case has been lodged.
On Sunday evening, another video of two men abusing and manhandling traffic police officers in northwest Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place went viral after which the two were arrested.
