Two robbers who had shot dead a software engineer for refusing to roll down his car windows during a robbery bid in Noida have been arrested here.

The robbers allegedly opened fire at a Delhi Police team when their motorcycle was intercepted in Geeta Colony during the wee hours of Monday. However, the duo was overpowered and nabbed.

The interrogation of Mohd. Mehfooz and Mohd. Abid revealed their involvement in over 40 robberies in Delhi and NCR. At their instance, their two associates were also held.

Sachin Sehrawat, who was killed on August 30, had just joined Samsung in Noida. His father is a sub-inspector with Haryana Police in Rohtak.

Sachin and his brother Tarun were on their way to Noida from Rohtak when they stopped in Sector-24 to relieve themselves. Sachin was behind the wheels.

“The robbers, who were nearby, noticed the gold chains the brothers were wearing. Unable to rob them, they chased them on a motorcycle before intercepting them at a traffic signal. But, the occupants of the car refused to roll down the car windows or open the door,” said DCP (East) B.S. Gurjar .

Tarun, who was shot in the abdomen, said on Monday: “One of them fired a shot through the side window. But Sachin pushed me aside, because of which it brushed past my stomach and hit Sachin. After that, they fired several shots at us.”

Despite being hit thrice, Sachin managed to drive away from the robbers. “Some policemen were standing some distance away and they helped us reach a hospital. However, Sachin died,” said Tarun.

The local police were clueless about the identity of the assailants. Late on Sunday night, Delhi Police received a tip-off about the suspects arriving in Delhi.

“We had inputs that they will be armed and will not hesitate to open fire if stopped. Our men, dressed in bullet-proof jackets, laid a trap and nabbed them,” said Mr. Gurjar.

Their associates have been identified as Haji Nasruddin and Yasir. Two years ago, Haji and his family were arrested by Kerala Police for robbing two kg gold.
