A 22-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were arrested on September 8 for the alleged murder of an autorickshaw driver whose body was found on September 3 at Sector 168 here, the police said on Sunday.

The police said that accused Rahim and the woman knew Israfil, the victim, for nearly four years.

“Both Rahim and Israfil belonged to Katihar village in Bihar, and were friends. Nearly four years back, the two were travelling to Bihar on train. The woman, who is from Muzaffarpur, had boarded the wrong train. She met Rahim and Israfil on the train. They helped her reach her home in Bihar,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma.

He said the three exchanged numbers and started talking.

Affair

Israfil and the woman, who worked as a domestic help in Delhi, started meeting and the two also had developed a physical relationship, said police. , adding that Rahim worked in Bihar, while Israfil worked as a driver in Noida.

“Despite making promises to the woman, Israfil married another woman nearly two years back. The woman then tried to cut all ties with him, but Israfil did not let her do so. Meanwhile, Rahim started talking to the woman,” said Mr. Sharma.

When the woman refused to meet Israfil any more, he threatened her that he would tell Rahim everything about their affair, the police said.

“The woman then hatched plan, along with Rahim, to kill Israfil. Rahim came to Noida on September 2. The woman had asked Israfil to meet her at Noida City Centre. She went to Sector 168 in Israfil’s auto, while Rahim followed them. Once they reached a secluded place, the woman blindfolded Israfil on the pretext of getting intimate with him and slit his throat. Rahim reached the spot. He along with the woman smashed Israfil’s head with a stone so that he could not be identified,” Mr. Sharma said. He said that the accused then fled the spot and Rahim later returned to Bihar.

The duo was produced before a magistrate and later sent to jail.
