Two persons have been arrested in connection with a carjacking case, a senior police officer said on Monday.

The arrested accused were identified as Krishan Kumar, who belongs to Rajasthan, and Rajpal Singh, from Haryana. Rajpal is a drug addict. They are the members of Hansa gang, which is involved in multiple cases of carjacking in Delhi and Haryana.

On November 16, four people had hired a cab from Dhaula Kuan for Manesar. The passengers befriended the cab driver and asked him to stop at a dhaba for dinner. As soon as they resumed journey, they held the driver hostage at gunpoint.

They tied his hands and legs, and taped shut his mouth before dumping him on the road. The accused then fled with the cab.

“We received a tip-off about the movement of the accused. A trap was laid at Jhareda village, where one of them was scheduled to arrive for fixing the price of the stolen car. Policemen in plain clothes were deployed there,” said a police officer.

Two persons arrived in a cab. When the police tried to nab them, they attempted to flee but were held following a brief chase.

“We have recovered the robbed car and seized a countrymade pistol. The case is under investigation,” said DCP (South-West) Devendra Arya.

The accused claimed that before dumping the driver, they took his SIM card but returned his mobile. The police said they also gave him a jacket and ₹100 so that he could reach home.
