Two police officers were arrested on Monday for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹10,000 from a man whose wife had submitted a complaint against him. The officers allegedly told the man that they will not take action against him if he paid the bribe.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Omvir Singh Bishnoi said the complainant, employee with an insurance company, approached the Vigilance Department claiming that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jauhari Singh, posted at Bara Hindu Rao police station, had demanded money in exchange for not acting on a complaint by his wife. He claimed he had already paid ₹6,000 and the ASI was demanding an additional ₹4,000.

“A team was constituted and sent to the police station along with the complainant. The officers were in civil dress. The man met the ASI, who directed him to pay the balance amount to Head Constable Pardeep,” said Mr. Singh.

The accused officers were arrested as soon as Mr. Pardeep accepted the bribe, said Mr. Bishnoi.
