NGT gives DPCC a month time

Following a plea alleging open burning of garbage near the waste treatment plant in Okhla, the National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to look into the matter and furnish a report.

Noting that the petitioners had provided photographs as evidence, a Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said, “Let the DPCC look into the matter, take appropriate action in accordance with law and furnish a factual and action taken report in the matter within one month.”

The directions came when a Jasola-based residents’ welfare association moved the green court alleging open burning of waste in the presence of officials and guards near the waste treatment plant.

Earlier the green panel had held that non-biodegradable waste and non-recyclable plastic should be segregated at landfill sites and used in the construction of building roads and embankments.
