Travel agent arrested for issuing fake airline tickets worth over ₹1 crore

Accused wanted in cheating cases in Jaipur, Pune, Puducherry

A 30-year-old travel agent has been arrested for allegedly duping several clients of over ₹1 crore by providing them fake air tickets, the police said on Monday.

Sandeep Kumar Jha, a resident of north-east Delhi’s Khajuri Khas, is a proclaimed offender and also wanted in numerous cheating cases in Jaipur, Pune and Puducherry, they said.

Mr. Jha used to work in a travel agency in Connaught Place and issued fake airline tickets and duped numerous persons in various parts of the country, the police also said.

Mr. Jha was arrested from Sun Light Colony following a tip-off. During interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan said.

He had managed to convince the proprietor of the travel agency with his marketing skills. He could arrange for cheaper air tickets compared to the prevailing market rates, Mr. Ranjan said.

After working for a while, Mr. Jha gained his employer’s faith and started cheating the firm and its customers by issuing fake tickets, he also said. The accused worked as a steward in five-stars hotels in Delhi between 2009 and 2018. He started cheating people to earn quick money.
