The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday launched a toll-free number — 14433 — to help callers with complaints.

An NHRC statement said chairperson Justice H.L. Dattu launched the number as well as the integration of the NHRC online complaint filing system with the common service centre portal of the Union government. These steps had been taken by the NHRC to expand its outreach since this is the silver jubilee year of the Commission, he said.

NHRC Secretary-General Ambuj Sharma said to start 750 common service centres, at least one in each district had been selected for the online integration. This would be expanded to all centres in phases.

“Now people, in addition to sending their complaints of human rights violations to the Commission by post, fax, e-mail, online through NHRC website; www.nhrc.nic.in, can send them through the common service centres. They can also contact the NHRC at the toll-free number for necessary guidance...,” the NHRC statement read.
