A one-year-old toddler came under the wheels of a water tanker in Outer North Delhi’s Narela on Monday, the police said.

The driver, Neeraj, has been arrested, they said. DCP (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma said the incident was reported at 11 a.m. in Narela’s Pocket 8.

“On reaching the spot, the police were told that the toddler had gone under the parked vehicle, which the driver did not know. He reversed his vehicle and the child came under the wheels,” he said.

The vehicle has been seized. An officer said a neighbour claimed that the driver had earphones on while driving and hence could not hear them scream. The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC and relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered.
