To touch the sky, once again

November 11, 2011 10:03 am | Updated 10:03 am IST - NEW DELHI:

To revive an age-old tradition, Delhi Tourism is organising a Kite Flying Festival in collaboration with Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation this weekend.

The festival will be organised at the India Gate lawns opposite the National Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. The main events at the festival will be kite-flying, a kite-cutting competition, a theme pavilion and a kite trail with over 100 kites on one string.

“The idea behind the festival is to revive the city's kite flying tradition,” said a Delhi Tourism spokesperson.

The kite-cutting event will see 32 kite-flying clubs from the Capital battle it out for cash awards promised to the top three.

The SRDC will be participating with two cultural events called Dastaan-e-Patang and Patang-e-Mausiki . Several other cultural events will also be featured in the festival which will be held between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on both days.
