Unfazed by a case lodged against him for allegedly breaking the lock of a sealed house in north-east Delhi’s Gokulpur, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and his supporters attempted to repeat the incident after the East civic body restored the seal of the property on Tuesday.
The North-East Delhi MP was, however, stopped by the police from breaking the lock. Despite the FIR against him, Mr. Tiwari reached the area accompanied by scores of BJP workers and locals to break the seal of the same house. On being stopped, he agreed to return after being assured by municipal officials that they would look into the matter.
The property was sealed as it was being used as a “dairy facility” and allegedly being run in violation of the Delhi Master Plan, an East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) official said.
Mr. Tiwari said that his party was against “illegal” sealing as well as the “pick and choose” policy allegedly being followed in sealing properties.
“The protest against prejudiced action will cover not just Gokulpur but other villages also. Wherever houses of the poor people will be sealed illegally, I will protest against it,” he said, adding: “I will not let lakhs of people suffer due to corruption and will protest the selective action against the poor.”
AAP leader Dilip Pandey lashed out at Mr. Tiwari saying it was an attempt by the party to hide failures. “Mr. Tiwari is enacting drama to misguide traders and people of Delhi by breaking the seal. It is an attempt to hide failures of the BJP, which rules the municipal corporations that are carrying out the sealing drive,” said Mr. Pandey.
Congress leader Arvinder Singh said his party’s ‘Nyay Yudh’ had rattled the BJP, “Mr. Tiwari is doing cheap politics. Our campaign is for removing seals and not breaking them. But Mr. Tiwari is doing it for publicity.”
