Tihar Jail authorities recovered several prohibited articles, including an iPhone and knives, during a search exercise on Wednesday. The articles were buried under a patch of land in the open area of Jail Number 1.

“During a search operation on Wesdnesday at 11 a.m. in jail no. 1, we found nine mobile phones along with four chargers and several other articles, which prisoners are not allowed to keep,” said a statement issued by the jail.

Additional Inspector General (Prisons) Mukesh Prasad added that since the articles were bundled together and wrapped in a cloth, no inmates have been zeroed in on as suspects. He added that the surprise raid was conducted after intelligence inputs were received by jail superintendent. Asked who has access to the patch of the land, he said all prisoners of the jail are allowed to go there and roam when not in their cells.
