The attempts being made by AAP and the Congress to form an alliance smacked of “politics of opportunism” from both sides, said Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Saturday.
After talks between AAP and the Congress reached a stalemate, Mr. Tiwari likened the alliance to a “dream house” that has collapsed.
“The dream house of AAP has collapsed and a window of the alliance will always remain open. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s eagerness to form an alliance with the Congress in Delhi is an insult to the massive mandate given to him by the people of Delhi,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.
“At present, AAP has become so weak that if the Congress offers only two seats, they will be ready for an alliance,” he added.
The North East Delhi MP claimed that an internal survey had made AAP realise that the people of Delhi were “against them.”
‘Has done nothing’
This even as during the last four-and-a-half years, Mr. Kejriwal “has not done anything” for the people of Delhi, which was “worth mentioning”, he said.
“In 2013, AAP used to abuse Congress President Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and DPCC president Sheila Dikshit and also claimed to have a chargesheet of 370 pages against Ms. Dikshit but today he is not ashamed of begging for an alliance with them,” Mr. Tiwari alleged. “Mr. Kejriwal’s eagerness to form an alliance with the Congress in Delhi is an insult to a massive mandate given by the people of Delhi. The citizens voted against the Congress and brought Mr. Kejriwal to power but AAP is trying to form an alliance with the same party, which is clearly politics of opportunism,” he added.
