Three drown in Yamuna

October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - New Delhi:

Three teenagers, including one minor, drowned during an idol immersion exercise in the Yamuna in North Delhi’s Timarpur on Wednesday evening.

It was around 4.30 p.m. that Ajay (18), Ashish (16) and Amar (18) — all residents of Bhalswa Dairy — had gone there to immerse an idol of goddess Durga.

According to the police, the three had decided to swim in the river, but could not survive the currents.

“Police was informed by their friends who had also come along. The bodies were fished out with the help of divers. Their families were informed and the bodies were sent for post mortem,” said a senior police officer.
