A 19-year-old member of Kapil Sangwan gang and his accomplice have been arrested for allegedly shooting at a school’s cashier and robbing her of over ₹5 lakh in Dwarka on April 4, the police said on Monday.

DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the accused have been identified as Mayank and his friend Atul Pradhan.

The police received a call around 4 p.m. on April 4 and were informed that a woman had been shot at and robbed of ₹5 lakh. When they reached the hospital, they were told that the victim was a fee collector at a private school and had gone to the bank to deposit money with a colleague. However, since the server was down she decided to return to the school when the incident happened.

“When she was near the school, a boy, who was already standing there brandished a pistol asking her to give her the bag containing the money. When she resisted, he shot at her, took the bag and fled on his scooty,” Mr. Alphonse said. When the CCTV footage of the incident was scanned the police got the registration number of the scooty. “The scooty was found registered in the name of one Mahipal Singh, a resident of Najafgarh. A raid was conducted and the scooty was seized,” he said.

Mr. Mahipal’s son Vaibhav said that he had given his scooty to his friend Mayank. Mayank told the police that he had given the scooty to Atul. “Atul’s details were found from Mayank’s phone. His number was traced. The police were then led to one Jaideep who said Atul had been forcibly using his number,” the officer said.

Atul was arrested from Bindapur at Jaideep’s instance. During interrogation, he said that he was given the task by the wife of Joginder Dalal alias Leela, a member of Kapil Sangwan gang who is lodged in Tihar jail.
