A day after three persons died and two others injured after two cars collided in Anand Vihar, police said that the SUV’s speed was one of the reasons behind the mishap. They are, however, waiting to record the statement of the surviving driver of the SUV to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.

The deceased were identified as Shamshad (28) Abdul and Garve Sehgal (30). While the injured were Akshay Jain and Imran.

Statement crucial

Akshay Jain, occupant of the SUV, is undergoing treatment at AIIMS and is still unfit for giving a statement. His statement is crucial to know why and how he lost control of the vehicle. Forensic teams will inspect the two vehicles on Friday morning. Only then they will be able to tell us whether any tyre of the SUV burst, its steering jammed or the brakes failed or overspeed was the reason behind the mishap, said a senior police officer.

According to Gaurav, a relative of deceased Sehgal, he was the youngest one in the family while his two siblings live in UK and Canada. Sehgal was pursuing event management course along with Akshay Jain. “We were not sure as to where Sehgal was going to at the time of mishap. We got a call from the hospital at around 8:30 p.m. and we rushed there. The officials informed us that Sehgal is no more. The entire family is shattered,” said Gaurav.

“Sehgal’s father told us that he received a call from him just before the incident. But he missed the call as he was attending a cremation. When he returnedhome, he found that Sehgal tried contacting him on WhatsApp too,” said a relative. He added that the entire family is in a state of shock as to how this happened. Sehgal’s last rites would be performed once his siblings are back.

Shamshad, is survived by his wife and two daughters aged 13 and 8 and was the only bread winner of the family.
