‘Stop stealing votes’

Hundreds of AAP supporters staged a protest outside the Election Commission office, demanding that VVPAT-equipped EVMs be used for all future elections.

Crowds poured in from 11 a.m with placards and shouted slogans “ vote chori band karo [stop stealing votes]” and “ Loktantra ki hatya band karo [stop the murder of democracy]”.

Senior AAP leaders were also present in the protest to demand people’s “right to elect”. The party put forth three primary demands before the EC. A memo was also submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner.

“Our primary demand is that all EVMs henceforth should be equipped with VVPATs. The EC should allow a technical inspection of EVMs by an expert panel with representatives from all parties, to see if they can be hacked,” said Gopal Rai, the party's Delhi convenor.

The party has asked that EVM results also be tallied with 25% booths in a constituency that will be randomly picked, the VVPAT slips. Mr. Rai said they will ask the EC to announce the date for the hackathon in an all-party meet called on Friday.
