A stint of service in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has to be made compulsory in all educational institutions, said Vice-President M.Venkaiah Naidu, speaking to NCC cadets at the inaugural ceremony of the Republic Day Camp on Monday.

According to an official statement, the Vice-President said that the training provided by the NCC, since its inception, has played a vital role in inculcating the qualities of discipline, leadership, camaraderie, team spirit, adventure and national integration.

It leads to the holistic development of the nation’s youth and assures them a better future, he added.

“The ambience of this camp fosters the feeling of unity and patriotism,” said Mr. Naidu.

The Vice-President added: “The NCC is a shining example of national integration and secularism and you are the pillars of our nation.”

In times of crisis

Mr. Naidu also appreciated the NCC’s service in times of crisis and natural disasters like earthquakes, cyclones, floods, as well as their efforts towards community development and social upliftment.

“These efforts will definitely improve the social fabric,” he said.
