Step up online services for issuing certificates: L-G

Baijal tells urban local bodies to provide extra features for correction of names

Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday directed all three municipal corporations to step up online services for issuing birth and death certificates, his office said in a statement.

Mr. Baijal said that the existing software may be upgraded to provide additional features for inclusion and correction of names to facilitate users.

Municipal commissioners have also been directed to review the functioning of registrars and sub-registrars and ensure that the first copy of birth certificate is provided to the parents by respective hospitals at the time of discharge itself.

10 lakh issued annually

Online birth and death certificates have been issued by the urban local bodies since 2016, the statement read, with approximately ten lakh such certificates issued annually. Out of these, only 24% are issued online, the Lieutenant-Governor’s office said.

The municipal corporations are currently in the process of tying up with the Union government’s Common Service Centres (CSCs) to provide issuance of such certificates and other online facilities.
