A 16-year-old girl was stabbed allegedly for refusing to share her older sister’s phone number with a stalker in Vivek Vihar on Monday night. Though she was admitted with multiple injuries, the victim has been discharged from hospital after being operated upon. While the accused has been identified, he is yet to be apprehended.

The police said the victim, a native of Bihar, lives with her family in Shahdara and is a Class VII student at a local school.

“She was on her way to buy milk from the local dairy around 9 p.m. on Monday when she was suddenly confronted by a local resident, Vicky, at an isolated spot. He demanded her sister’s phone number which the victim refused to reveal,” said a senior police officer. Enraged by her reaction, Vicky began assaulting her and, when she stood up to him, he pulled out a knife from his pocket, attacked her repeatedly, and left her bleeding. Hearing her cries, some passersby rushed to help the victim with one of them informing the local police. A police team took her to Dr. Hegdewar Hospital. She had suffered serious injuries to her wrist.

A case of causing hurt with dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement was registered at the Vivek Vihar police station based on her statement.

The police said the victim had also provided investigators Vicky’s address, and said that he had been stalking her sister for long and their warnings to keep away proved no deterrence to him. Several teams have been formed to trace the accused.
