Three persons were killed and four sustained injuries when a speeding Porsche car ploughed into a group of labourers near Shankar Chowk here on Sunday.

The accident took place around 4 p.m. when the car approaching Shankar Chowk at great speed from the direction of Delhi hit the labourers.

The labourers were re-carpeting the road when the car rammed their equipment and then hit them. Even before passers-by could gather at the spot, the car driver had fled the spot leaving the badly damaged vehicle behind.

While one of the labourers died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Pappu (35), Ram Prasad (35) and Lakhan (25). Four labourers are under treatment at Orbit Hospital.

The police have impounded the vehicle. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the car was registered in the name of a Delhi-based company, but the driver has not been identified so far.

“It seems that the car was being driven at high speed leading to the accident. Also, visibility was poor as it was drizzling at the time of the accident. A case has been registered based on the complaint of the injured and the onlookers,” said Station House Officer of DLF Phase-II, Navin Kumar.
