Speeding buses crush man to death, injure biker

He was returning home after dropping his child to school; biker hospitalised

A 38-year-old man returning home after dropping his child to school was allegedly crushed to death by speeding buses on Outer Ring Road in south Delhi on Wednesday morning, the police said.

Locals nab accused

Manoj Kumar Saini died on the spot. A biker was also injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The bus drivers were held by the locals and handed over to the police.

The police control room received a call regarding the accident near a jewellery showroom in South Extension-I around 8 a.m.

The accident

Locals told the police that the two buses were speeding on the road, and crushed Manoj and injured the biker while trying to overtake one another, the police said.

“A private bus engaged with Sharda University in Greater Noida, and another bus engaged with Al-Falah University on Sohna Road in Gurugram, were being driven in a rash and negligent manner on the road on Wednesday. While the bus drivers were overtaking from the wrong side, they hit a scooty rider, later identified as Manoj. He died on the spot. A biker, identified as 18-year-old Shashank, has sustained injuries,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya.

Leg fractured

Mr. Baaniya said Shashank is a student and was on the way to an institute. Mr. Shashank has fractured his leg and has suffered other injuries on the body.

“Manoj was identified with the help of the documents on his person. His family was informed about the incident. He worked with a courier company,” said a police officer.

Case registered

“We have registered a case under IPC Sections of 304 A [causing death by negligence] and 279 [causing death by negligence] at Kotla Mubarakpur police station. Accused bus drivers Dinesh and Sarabjeet have been arrested and the vehicles impounded,” said Mr. Baaniya.
